Show & Tell #4

I had a dream of moving up north, to the pastoral Galilee, to live and raise my kids (hmmm... I can't see myself ever a mother, but I still dream of kids and not just one child) there. I still want to do that one day, but I also do not want to give up what I have here - my family.

Where I live, with my mother and sister #3 as neighbours (and father and another sister nearby), we're kind of the "centre" of things. I mean for starts I wasn't planning on moving before my child was of such and such an age (no particular age in mind, maybe a few months when I got the hang of motherhood and can go live far from the rest), because as a single parent I probably would need plenty of help. But I see this familiness, and besides wanting to be here for my selfish reasons, I also want to be part of this, and not someone who comes down once in a blue moon. I see my little niece and nephew (=cousins) playing together, and I want my child to be part of this.

And I love it when kind of spontaneously everyone comes over (more so I love the fact that since it's here, I can have my moments when it's enough and go and zoom out and come back later. Something that I can't do if it's not my house, and I do have those moments and do need my time out).

Today (or rather yesterday) was such a day. People came and it was a nice day. At one point the mulberry tree was invaded for its delicious fruit, and it was so funny looking at them picking, I just had to go get my camera (no, I didn't join the fun). So here's a first peep at some of my family members - my mother, two of my sisters, two of my nieces and a brother in law.

Now go and see what the rest of the class are showing for show and tell!

What a wonderful day it sounds like that you had! We live very far from our family, and it makes me so sad.

I like get togethers that are spontaneous. Our family lives nearby too and we love having them over. I've never had a mulberry before. Are they sweet?

My parents still live in the house I grew up in. My brother lives 5 doors down from them and I fought to buy a new house last summer that is less than quarter mile to them. I absolutely love being in walking distance to them all.

Ooooo those are the BEST kind of times, when noting has been planned and people are there for good company!

We could never leave either. With both sets of grandparents and an aunt and uncle all under 15 minutes away - it is perfect.

It sounds like a wonderful time was had by all. We have a mulberry tree in our back yard and they make wonderful pies.

I love living as close to my family as I do...sometimes I wish they were closer.

Such a blessing to be so near to your family! We live over 3,000 miles away from mine, and 2 hours from his. Seeing everyone in your photo made me smile. Thanks!

Looks like a great day. I sometimes wish that I had family members I had a close relationship with and that we lived close by.
Glad your family is close by and you get to spend time with them.

It sounds like that was a very fun day! I think it's wonderful that your family is so close by. Mine lives so far away, and I miss them.

I can't say that I've ever tried mulberries. Maybe I will have to find some now!

So fun! I always say I could move away from my family, but if it came down to it I don't know if I could go through with it.

Thanks all :-).
Funny, my mother just remarked on that day how strange it is that mulberry is not something we ever see in the shops. Anyway it is a tasty fruit! (we have two trees [one with dark purple fruit, the other whitish], both of which, BTW, were not planted but just sprouted "out of nowhere"..)

Oh, and the cute bum belongs to my 20 year old niece (my sisters are with the red/pink shirts), and no, she doesn't know it's on air :-D.

I grew up with a HUGE extended family (my mom is #5 of 11). So I've always craved the noise of a large family. I enjoy the quiet of my home now with just Husband and me but I miss the disaster in the quietest moments. I feel sad that children haven't come naturally for us and that our dream of a large family must be artifically produced if ever! I know after all this heartache of my infertility just one baby will be a Godsend. I think you are very lucky to have such a supportive family living near you. And even in my craziest family moments, its better to have them there than having nobody. So fantasize about the peace of your move, but I think staying with family is the best adventure. Just my humble opinion.
