can't get rid of the cats

It is such a mess here and I'm dying to do something about it, but I can't do anything with all the cats here. It will just return very quickly to its previous state. And I know I just can't become pregnant with how things look here. Actually, I would rather not. I mean I don't want to have to do all the cleaning and tidying when I'm queasy and and vomiting and all the first trimester lot. When I'm pregnant I would like to be free to accommodate it for the baby, like bed stuff and enlarging my shower. You know, nesting...
So my first aim is to get rid of most of the cats here. I fixed Michelle, and I also have Jupiter who is fixed. They are the ones who of course will stay with me. As for the rest...
I asked sister #5 a while ago to help me with it, and got a not so thrilled yes from her. Didn't hear from her about it since. In the meantime I heard of someone who had these people come to her house to take the cats. Of course I was thrilled, but turned out they only took them to have them fixed and then returned them. Not good. So I was planning of getting a cage, something large enough for two or three cats (maybe a dog's cage?) and doing a few rounds to some kind of animal organization. I am most concern of the female cats, as I have damn well enough cats here already and the last thing I need is more kittens (and no, really can't afford to have them fixed). Of course I would need help, as I don't drive, and sister #5 is the only one I can turn to for help. And believe me, it took a long time for me to be able to turn to her and tell her how I can't with all the cats and how I would appreciate her help.
So tonight I spoke to her. Rather she phoned me regarding me and my mother and talked about how in our family we don't say what we really mean. Kind of ironic. Anyway I asked her again, and was, am so frustrated. I don't seem to be able to do anything about the cats. She first said 3 cats (there are 3 females) won't fit in one cage, and then that they'll fight all the way. We are talking about a one trip, which might take about 45 minutes, but well.. She then wanted me to phone one of the organizations and ask for their advice. Sorry, but that's not going to happen. I am stupid, immature, unsociable, need a lot of growing up to do, but I will not make that phone call (or many other calls for that matter). I just know I won't. And she kept nagging me why not. Really annoying.
And so frustrating that I don't seem to be able to get rid of them.

Do you have anything like Kijiji there? Here's a link http://www.kijiji.com/ they have several countries to choose from on the bottom...

or any other place that you can advertise to give some of them away? Maybe flyers or something?

Hope you figure it out soon.

I agree with the decision to get rid of the cats and complete tidying up before getting pregnant. Not so much for not being able to cope through pregnancy (you'll be surprised how long a pregnancy is, and how much energy the nesting impulse gives you - not in the first trimester, but later). But those "sorry that won't happen" and the acknowledged "need a lot of growing up to do" should really happen before there's a child at stake.
So I think your decision is wise.

I hope you get over it soon, finding the maturity to make the few phone calls to complete strangers (what do you care what they think?) who like cats (most probably very nice people) and a few taxi drivers (why rely on sisters and get bad responses when you can pay for a taxi and do it yourself?), and just do it. You'll feel much better after that, I'm sure.

BTW, the organization that "only took them to have them fixed and then returned them" - is that not half of the solution? can't you have them fixed first, just so they don't keep reproducing, and then find a way to actually transfer them?

In that case I will never be a mother. If I need to do growing up before a child comes. Don't agree with you, and now another reason why I won't make that call.
And 800 NIS X 10 = 8000 NIS - where do you think I have that money???

what is this calculation?
What costs 800 NIS? and why times 10?
Our municipality fixes stray cats for free.
And a taxi surely doesn't cost that much and does not require 10 rounds.
Am really puzzled about the calculation.

>>> Don't agree with you, and now another reason why I won't make that call.

The other reason being my comment? I'm not sure I follow.

When people try to fix me and correct my evil ways - the reverse happens, I snuggle up more into my shell.

and do you think making me feel worse than when I wrote the post helps?

When you wrote the post, you seemed to be in a halt. Desperate, and not seeing any way out.
In order to assist, I try to find directions out within your story. Unfortunately, in many cases, the reason you don't have a way out is you and your decisions. So yes, I'm not sure there's a better way than shaking you out of your decisions, in order to move forward.
It may be that this shaking is making you snuggle up more into your shell, but I hope that in the long run, after you think about it, you do manage to find a few open routes that were closed before.

And now for perhaps something more productive :), how about free online classifieds for free cats? There's a lot of animal lovers out there.

I think it's great that you are thinking of this now and planning before pregnancy.

Wow, I don't envy you. I would have a horrible time trying to give my cats away. You know, this is why I avoid ANY situation where friends are giving away kittens. I know me, I get attached too easily and would wind up taking them home.
