The NT Scan

Well, I'll start with the great news - excellent results! Both nose bone and NT.

A little word to Birdy - as much as I enjoy seeing you, and can't take my eyes off you and would love to be there the whole day, when the dr. tries to turn you around, oh please do turn! Don't think my bladder could have taken much more poking from the dildo cam. lol. But yeah, you're stubborn like you're mother..

And...

Birdy's a girly!!!!!

As he explained to me, that thing sticking out between the feet - at this stage both boys and girls have it, but whereas with boys it is at some kind of angle, with girls it is parallel to the butt, or something like that. He did say it is not 100%, but 80% sounds good enough to me!
Oh, I am so happy to be having a girl. All the way home I had such a smile on my face, which switched to crying out of excitment.
I am having a girl!

congrats on a great scan!

never heard about perpendicular gender bits how interesting!

Congratulations on the girly! But I have also not heard of angled and parallel parts. Lets have another ultrasound after 16 weeks and see if those parts stay a girl.
Either way, it's wonderful.

Wow, I never thought you could find out the gender so early. Congratulations!! So excited for you having a girl. Seems like everyone I know is having a boy. If she moves to the States, she'll have lots of boys to choose from. ;)

I want a little girl.

So glad the pregnancy is going well.

I was just talking to some girls about gender roles and how if you give kids gender neutral toys, most girls will turn it into something to nurture and most boys will turn it into an action something. Not that I think it's bad to give boys dolls and girls trucks. I just think our gender roles are ingrained in us (even our brains are literally wired differently).

Thank you all :-)

Searching the internet, seems there is the "angle of the dangle" theory - if the angle is 30%, likely it's a boy, parallel - a girl. One site talked about a 50% accuracy, the dr. and another site mentioned 80%. I do believe the dr. when he says 80%. Anyway, next scan will be at 16 weeks.

Miss X - I am a strong believer in nurture. I believe that boys will be boys and girls girls due to the way they are raised. And yes, I do think there is a different in wiring, but I do believe this difference is caused by us behaving in a different way to boys/girls, i.e that when they are born the brain is the same, but as they get older their brain gets tuned into their "correct" gender role, because that's what society teaches them.
I know it is a big issue - nature versus nurture. Maybe those who believe children are born boys/girls are right, maybe not. As for as I am concerned, since I am a big believer in nurture, I think it would be my responsibility to make sure she (or he) has a chance to develop both kinds of wiring (or maybe a third a-gender type?).
